Women's Cross Country Takes Spot in USTFCCCA Rankings For First Time In Program History

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Radford Women's Cross Country team earned a spot in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Regional Rankings, a first in the history of the program.

Radford slotted in at number 15 in the women's Southeast Region rankings when the USTFCCCA announced them on Monday afternoon. The region is led by NC State and also includes Big South rivals High Point and Campbell.

The Highlanders placed second at the 2020 Big South Conference Championships, the program's best showing since winning the entire thing in 1990. Annsley Eckert also etched her names in the history books by being named the Bis South Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

While Eckert has since graduated, the team will return several key contributors including its top three finishers at the conference championships a year ago - senior Rachel Working, junior Rachel Millirons, and sophomore Chloe Wellings.

Radford will begin its 2021 season this Wednesday, Sept. 1 when it competes at the Virginia Tech Invitational right down the road in Blacksburg. The women's race is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the men will run soon after at 6:30 p.m.
