Women’s Tennis Falls in Tight Match at Longwood

BOX SCORE RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's tennis program fell in a tight match at Longwood 4-3 Tuesday afternoon despite an early doubles advantage and some tight singles matches.

In doubles Radford got things started right winning courts one and two to take an early 1-0 advantage over Longwood. On court three, Brooke Murphy and Michaela Stephens were excellent, winning 6-1 setting up the duo of Julia Abrams and Emily Brandow to clinch on court one 6-3.

In singles, the Highlanders would get their two victories from Stephens and Lexi Smolder. On court two, the freshman continued to impress especially in conference action as she defeated her opponent 6-0, 4-6, 1-0(3). Smolder also won in a third set tiebreaker, defeating her opponent 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Radford closes out the regular season this Saturday, April 13th when they host Presbyterian for a 1 p.m. match. The Saturday meeting will also be the Highlanders senior day with the ceremony beginning shortly before the 1 p.m. match start time.
