SOFTBALL FALLS AT LIBERTY

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Radford fell at Liberty, 9-1, in five innings Tuesday afternoon from LU Softball Field.

The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead in the second on a successful safety squeeze by Michelle Beall, plating Shannon Keefe, who led off the inning with a single and stole second.

Radford had an opportunity for more in the third, but Kristen Shifflett was gunned down at home trying to score from second on a Sarah Himan single to left.

The Lady Flames used that momentum to take a 3-1 lead with a pair of home runs in the bottom half of the inning. Kelly Strickland's long ball put Liberty up, 2-1, as it just cleared the fence in left center after tipping off the glove of the outfielder. Following a pitching change, Amber DePasquale, with two outs, lined a shot over the leftfield fence for a 3-1 lead.

Liberty put the game away with six-run fifth that was capped off by a game-ending three-run double to rightcenter by Jenny Law.

Law finished 3-for-4 with three RBI. DePasquale and Kaylee West each had two hits for the Lady Flames.

Tiffany Smith picked up the complete game victory, allowing a run on three hits with six strikeouts and a walk.

Chelsea Kelley suffered the defeat. She surrendered two runs on three hits with a pair a strikeouts and a walk in 2.1 innings.

Keefe, Himan and Michelle Beall each singled for the Highlanders.

Radford returns to action this weekend for a three-game conference series at home with Charleston Southern. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 27 beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a single game at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
