WHITE & BETTS EARN VICTORIES AT UVA INVITATIONAL

RESULTS

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –
A pair of victories by senior Kaise White and sophomore Joseph Betts along with several personal-records by the Radford track & field team highlighted the day at the University of Virginia Invitational on Saturday.

Senior Kaise White won the 400m dash by almost a whole second after clocking in at 48.24 seconds. Sophomore Joseph Betts then brought home a victory in the 200m dash with a time of 21.53 seconds.

Betts just missed winning the 100m dash, falling .01 second short. He finished second with a time of 10.90 seconds while classmate Chris Henry finished sixth with a time of 11.41 seconds. Henry added a top-10 in the 200m dash with a time of 23.83 seconds.

Senior Curtis Hodge took second in the hammer throw with a toss of 53.28m while junior Garrett Knudson finished fifth with a personal-record distance of 45.11m. Hodge added a fifth place in the discus throw with a distance of 40.64m while senior Justin Smith earning a sixth place with a toss of 40.18m. Knudson then took second in the shot put with a personal-record distance of 15.42m while Smith followed him in third place with a toss of 15.40m.

RU had four runners place in the top-10 in the 1500m run led by junior Brian Gorwitz, who finished second with a person-record of 3:58.04. Classmate Thomas Keefe, sophomore Ryan Farnan and freshman Daniel Moniak finished 6-7-8 with times of 4:16,53, 4:16.96 and 4:20.70, respectively. Sophomore Jake Zimmerman took fourth in the 800m run with a personal-record time of 1:57.14 while junior Chris Weeks and Gorwitz both finished in the top-10 for the 800m after clocking times of 2:00.91 and 2:01.51, respectively.

The team of White, Betts, Henry and freshman Cory Dunn earned a third place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 42.58 seconds. Dunn added a fourth place in the triple jump with a distance of 13.35m.

The Highlanders had three top-10 finishers in the 400m hurdles with junior David Green earning fifth place after a time of 57.49 seconds. Freshman Shepley Burke followed Green in sixth with a time of 57.63 while sophomore Logan Shumaker finished ninth off a time of 59.18. Freshman Victor Brew tallied a fifth place in the 110m hurdles after running 15.78 seconds.

Sophomore Travis Hudson and Drake tied for sixth in the high jump with heights of 1.80m. Hudson added a fourth place finish in the javelin throw with a distance of 47.42m. Sophomore Josiah Brunson went for sixth place in the pole vault with a height of 3.90m.

On the women's side, the Highlanders were led by freshman Ashlen Veatch, who won the hammer throw with a toss of 50.52m. RU had two other top-10 finishers in sophomore Emmalane Hale,who took fifth with a personal-record distance of 39.54m, while classmate Jordan Wilson took seventh place with a throw of 37.01m.

Junior Kaleice Green was the runner-up in the long jump after a personal-record leap of 5.55m while sophomore Kayla Burd tallied a third place in the pole vault with a height of 2.75m.

The combination of juniors Green, Amber Church, Lakei Crews and senior Kayla Christian ran a 48.70 in the 4x100m relay to earn third place. Church then added a fourth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.84 seconds while Christian finished in seventh in the 100m dash with a time of 12.52 seconds. Green also recorded a top-10 finish in the 200m dash with a personal-record time of 26.04.

Hale then added a fourth place finish in the discus throw off a personal-record toss of 38.79m while sophomore Jazmine Banks put up a fifth place in the shot put with a distance of 12.38m. Sophomore Jamiecka Baker tied her personal-record in the high jump with a height off 1.55m while placing sixth.

Sophomore Teresa Williamson ran a 4:51.01 in the 1500m run while placing fifth, and senior Maggie Wissler earned a top-10 finish after posting a time of 4:53.80. Williamson also added a top-10 in the 800m run with a time of 2:27.11.

Radford track & field returns to action this Thursday and Friday, March 28 – 29 as they travel to University of North Florida for the Best Western Invitational.
