FARNAN WINS ON FIRST DAY AT WINTHROP INVITATIONAL

ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Radford University track and field wrapped up the first day of the Winthrop Invitational. The day included a victory for sophomore Ryan Farnan, three runner-up finishes, eight athletes returning for finals tomorrow and nine personal-records for the Highlanders.

Farnan took first in the 10,000m run after clocking a personal-record and the third fastest time in program-history at 31:55.26.

Junior Garrett Knudson finished runner-up in the shot put after a toss of 14.86m while junior Brian Gorwitz tallied a second place in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:22.15.

Senior Phillip Hovatter took second place in the decathlon after collecting a personal-record 5,857 points. He added personal-records in the 100m dash with a time of 11.10 seconds, the shot put with a distance of 10.65m and the javelin throw with a toss of 46.52m.

Senior Curtis Hodge added a fourth place finish in the hammer throw after a toss of 56.82m.

Sophomore Vincent Wyatt qualified second for the 110m hurdle finals tomorrow with the fifth fastest time in school-history at 14.14 seconds. Freshman Victor Brew also qualified in the 110m hurdle finals in the eighth position. Senior Kaise White qualified first for the 400m dash finals tomorrow while sophomore Joseph Betts qualified second in the 200m dash finals and sixth for the 100m dash finals tomorrow.

On the women's side, sophomore Jazmine Banks took fourth place in the shot put with a toss of 11.95m. Sophomore Teresa Williamson had a sixth place finish in the 5,000m run with a time of 18:14.83 while classmate Madeline Thomas finished tenth with a personal-record time of 19:01.42.

Junior Amber Church qualified fifth for the 100m hurdle finals tomorrow while junior Lakei Crews qualified sixth for the 100m dash finals tomorrow. Junior Michelle Speede qualified eighth for the 400m dash finals tomorrow.

Junior Katie Hickey and freshman Lora Wilson both achieved personal-records in the 400m dash with times of 1:03.29 and 1:02.24, respectively. Wilson also had a personal-record in the long jump after a leap of 5.05m. Freshman Madeline Harrover earned a personal-record in the 100m dash after clocking 13.47 seconds.

RU track & field returns to action tomorrow, March 30th for the final day of the Winthrop Invitational.
